Selling my coveted Triumph Thunderbird Sport. The “TBS” has been a cult classic from The Hinkley company since soon after this model went out of production in 2004. Produced of only 5 1/2 model years, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, and a short run for 2004. The 2000 model is in my opinion the best of the best for its striking bright orange over white color scheme, affectionately known as “creamcycle”. If you don’t already know all about this masterpiece, you can Google details but it has a 900cc triple engine, with triple carburetors and was rated at 70HP.

I bought it from the original owner about 10 years ago. Bike has always been garaged stored since new. It is almost completely devoid of the typical corrosion that you would expect to see of a bike of this age. I am a retired owner/founder of a large metropolitan Triumph motorcycle dealership, so this bike has never wanted for proper maintenance and professional care as long as I’ve owned it.

I was fortunate to find the accessory “Solo” seat with matching orange seat cowl and the matching sport fairing as well. These pieces today are made of “unobtainium”. Note that I also have the stock 2 person seat in great shape, shown in one of the photos. I also was able to find a set of the soft luggage guards shown in the photos which allow a set of toss over bags without any risk of them getting tangled with the rear wheel. Not shown is a set of basic soft bags that I will include as well for when you want to bring along some stuff.

I did what the TBS aficionados refer to as a “Stage 1 Tune” which includes two minor airbox modifications, and proper jetting. This, along with the aftermarket slip on mufflers I was able to source really woke this baby up. She starts and runs flawlessly, and has a beautiful sound without being too loud. It’s pure music. I can’t remember the brand of the mufflers, it was EMCO, or ELCO, or something like that. They were known for the best tone/sound, and I think I bought the last pair in existence back then. I do not still have the stock mufflers.

I serviced the bike just last week with fresh full synthetic oil, Triumph OEM filter, chain clean and lube, tire pressures, etc. It runs and rides great! Very fun and comfortable.

The tires have almost all their original tread thickness, BUT they were both produced in early 2013 so they are both over 9 years old. Typically our dealership would replace tires on our used bikes at 7 years of age regardless of remaining tread just because rubber tends to lose some of its ‘stickiness” over time. That said, this bike has lived in a temperature controlled garage the whole time with virtually no sunlight exposure except while riding. The tread areas still feel grippy, and I am comfortable riding on them, but you may want to fit new tires and tubes.

I can only think of two “Nit Piks”. One is there are a couple of very small nicks or cuts in the vinyl on the side of the solo seat, shown in a close up photo. The other is there are two dabs of touch up paint over two rock chips on the front fender. (Forgot to take a close up of this) Other than those, this bike is in incredible condition for its age. the 10400 miles are real. Note: Bike does not have anti-lock brakes. ABS braking wasn’t available on these models back then. Have 2 keys. I know I have the owner’s manual somewhere, but we moved recently and it’s likely in storage. It may or may not be available in the future as I’m not sure if I will find it. You can download a copy online.

Lastly, as I am retired and have moved 2000 miles from the dealership, This bike is being sold as-is, no warranties expressed or implied. I am not interested in any trades, and I do not provide any financing. I’d prefer a local buyer who can see it in person. No test rides without cash in my hand first. Cash, or cashier’s check only please.

If you want to buy sight unseen and have it shipped, I recommend using a motorcycle specific carrier, not something like U-ship.
