1978 Triumph Bonneville 750 project.

This is a late model Triumph twin I thought I might build into a cafe racer/fast-ish road racer. By ’78 Triumph had made some worth while improvements to their venerable twin including adding Amal Mk2 carbs on an improved head with parallel inlet ports, electronic ignition and dual disc brakes.

This is a numbers matching project I bought from the son of the original owner. He provided a bill of sale as the title could not be found. This will be provided to the new owner.

The Veglia speedo shows less than 6k for miles which would be very low for this bike. The motor turns over with good compression and the trans clicks through the gears. The Lucas Rita ignition is missing its box but the points pickup is still in place.

I collected a few parts I thought I would incorporate into this bike such as the right hand shift trans outer cover from and earlier bike and the extra front fork leg with a disc attachment to fit an extra disc brake. I will also include a points plate if anyone wanted to go back to points. I also have a new set of pucks for the front caliper, I have just replaced the neck bearings.

The front tire is a decent Continental but the rear is old and flat. The gas tank has been repaired once from corrosion and will need more work if not replacement. Seat is good and original, the side original airboxes and side covers are in good condition.

The head light is a Yamaha item that fits well but is not wired up, The original electrical harness looks usable and is in good shape. The front fender is not mounted and is not original as are the mufflers. Not shown is the chain guard that I just found.

Overall a great starting point for a cafe racer/bobber or special build.
